Puget Sound Genealogical Society “No OMPH? No Problem!”

Our monthly PSGS Program this month will be “No OMPF?  No Problem!”  with Sara Cochran.

Researching 20th Century veterans is especially difficult as a fire destroyed millions of Official Military Personnel Files in 1973. This program will look at other ways to find the stories of the WWI and WWII veterans in our families.

Puget Sound Genealogical Society There are no Witches-Are there?

Our monthly PSGS Program this month will be witches! Join us on Wed, Oct. 22 at 1pm (PT).  Our topic:   “The Witches of Salem: There are no Witches – Are there? Of course not!” with Jerri McCoy.

We of the twenty-first century are very much aware that hags do not fly across the moon on brooms. But in 1692 Charity and Mercy and plain good sense were all thrown into the fire of zealotry. Like Autumn brush fires, the witch hunt would swell and burn through Salem Village and neighboring towns. How were witches Identified? What happened to them? And who were those that were executed that terrible year in Salem? Come learn a little bit about them and their accusing neighbors.

Puget Sound Genealogical Society Alienation of Affection: Divorce in the US

Our monthly PSGS Program this month will be “Alienation of Affection:  Divorce in the US” with Christine Cohen.  It will be on Wednesday, Sep. 24 at 1pm. Social time starts at 12:30pm. The program will be hybrid with in person at the Sylvan Way Library and on Zoom.  The Zoom link will be posted the day before on our website (psgsociety.org) and our Facebook page.

Divorce is not just a 20th Century phenomenon. At first, granted by

the State Legislature and then by the Courts, these are public

records. The case files can include marriage date and place, names

and ages of children, current and former residences, and affidavits

by the spouses about their marriage and reason for divorce. Clues

are in the Census, City Directories, Military Pensions, County

Histories, County Courthouses & especially in Newspapers. This

could be the reason for a “lost spouse”.

Puget Sound Genealogical Society Western Trails Following the Seven T’s

Upcoming Puget Sound Genealogical Society Program.  Our August Program will be on Wednesday, August 27 at 1pm.  It will be “Western Trail- Following the Seven T’s ” with Steven W. Morrison

The major trails from the Midwest to the west will be covered in this session. The principal routes will include the Oregon and California Trails, the Mormon migration, the Santa Fe Trail, and more. These were the OVERLAND RIVERS which helped populate the West.  Social time starts at 12:30. Program will start at 1:00pm.

This will be hybrid with in person at the Sylvan Way Library (1301 Sylvan Way, Bremerton, WA) and on Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted on our website and Facebook page on Aug 26.

Puget Sound Genealogical Society Getting Started in Family History

Up coming events for June.

On June 21, we will finish our series “Getting Stated in Family History” with Cheri Hudson Passey.  This class will focus on Research Plans & Logs, Staying Organized, and Avoiding Mistakes. Class starts at 10:30am.

Our monthly Program on June 25 will be “25 Uncommon Sources for Your Genealogy with Gena Phililbert-Ortega.  The Program will start at 1:30pm.

These will be hybrid, with in person at the Sylvan Way Library (1301 Sylvan Way, Bremerton WA), and on Zoom.  The Zoom link will be posted the day before on our website (psgsociety.org)  and our Facebook page.

 Who’s going to take over the family history quest when you’re no longer able? Getting the younger generation interested in their family history is important work. Learn creative ways to get young people engaged in their own history research.

Puget Sound Genealogical Society April classes

Coming up in April from Puget Sound Genealogical Society. We will have the final two classes of Janet’s current series. April 5 will be “What to Do With What We Have” and on April 26, the class will be “Writing Your Research Results”. Both classes will start at 10:30am. Our Program this month will be “Dark as a Dungeon: Researching Mining Records” with Peggy Clemens Lauritzen. This will be on Wed, April 23 at 1pm.
