A Zoom presentation featuring Claire Smith will be hosted by the Clallam County Genealogical Society October 8th at 10:00am.  Claire is an outstanding genealogist and a wonderful speaker.  Her topic will be “Are You Really My Ancestor?  Getting Unstuck, Working Through Research Problems”.

She tells us “When you find a name match for an ancestor, it’s tempting to believe you’re related.  A name isn’t enough to prove the relationship, especially if you have a common surname – like mine!  In this session you’ll learn what it takes to prove a lineage, and how to handle conflicting information or multiple potential matches.  I will share examples that illustrate how to deal with these issues.”

“WPA Historical Records Survey and YOUR Genealogy”

Between 1935 and 1943 the WPA (Works Progress Administration) employed more than 8 million people, most in construction but also in the arts and cultural areas. Perhaps one of your ancestors was involved. In this presentation, we will explore the WPA and specifically the Historical Records Survey and what genealogically relevant content you can find in books, archival collections, and online.

Gena Philibert-Ortega is an author, researcher, and instructor who has published two books and many articles as well as six editions of the Tracing Your Ancestors series from Moresehead Publishing. Her current research includes women’s repatriation and citizenship in the 20th century, foodways and community in fundraising cookbooks, and women’s material culture.

Heritage Quest Research Library Finding and Usin Illinois Resources

Tina Beaird is the owner of Tamarack Genealogy and is a Genealogy & Local History librarian in Plainfield, IL. She holds a Masters of Library and Information Science degree with specialization in Archives/Preservation from Dominican University. Tina has won multiple research and digitization grants to preserve and digitize historic documents and photographs. Tri-City Genealogical Society September 14th Meeting

Tri-City Genealogical Society Meeting Wednesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. on Zoom

  There will be two presenters at the September TCGS General Meeting.  The first presenter will be Ryan Bennett who is a volunteer at the East Benton County History Museum.  He will be speaking on the resources available at the museum.  The museum is located at 205 West Keewaydin Drive in Kennewick.

  The second presentation will be by TCGS member Veronica Anguiano who will be speaking on Southern Land Records.

  There will be time after the presentations for questions and discussion.

  The Richland Family History Center has reopened.  See Sandra Floberg’s email sent on the evening of September 2 for details about the hours and the new entrance.   In the planning stage is an open house at the Family History Center for the October General Meeting.

 The Eastern Washington Genealogical Society is giving you the chance to learn more about researching in the heartland of America in a series of programs beginning in October and ending in June, 2023.

Kickoff for the EWGS series, Heritage from the Heartland, will be the focus of the October 1st meeting. It will be a hybrid meeting (both in person and ZOOM) but PLEASE, EWGS is limited to only so many via ZOOM so you in-towners COME and let the out-of-towners ZOOM, okay?)
