The Clark County Genealogical Society is seeking submissions for their Gallery of Grandmothers by August 15 in celebration of their 50th anniversary celebration. People can submit a photo of a current or past grandmother from anywhere or any era. Each photo should include up to 500 words about the ancestor, including such items such as name, dates of birth and death, birthplace, where and how they lived, what they did, favorite memory, and perhaps some personal characteristics. Digital images and descriptions can be emailed to marcia@ccgswa.org. You may also drop photo copies (up to 5”x7”) off at the CCGS Library, 3205 NE 52nd Street, Vancouver, WA 98663. The library is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The 50th anniversary celebration will be held on August 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come dressed like the early ‘70’s and have a grilled hot dog. This is a great time for those interested in ancestry research to explore the library and its sources, participate in some fun activities, and chat with genealogy experts. BIO – Lynda Keenan was born and raised in Illinois. In 1998, she moved to Spokane, Washington where she graduated from Eastern Washington University with a BA in Biology. About Thirty years ago, she began what has become her passion and now her career: genealogy and genetic research. Her research has extended beyond her own family, to others that have been searching for their families. Currently she is enrolled in the National Institute of Genealogical Studies and upon completion in August will hold certifications in American Records, English Records and Genetic Genealogy. Lynda is the President of the Eastern Washington Genealogical Society, and a member of several other Genealogical Societies, and participates in several Surname Projects. Over the past several years Lynda volunteered and worked with others on the Obituary Collection Index Project (OCIP), and upon completion we had over 87,000 obituaries Indexed from several local newspapers. She leads the Refocus monthly group and has taught and will be teaching courses on Genealogy Research and Genetic DNA. In 2020 she started her own genealogical business “A Sapling to A Family Tree” (STAFT.org), with staff from several states in America and is focusing on teaching more classes and working with clients to help them further their genealogical understanding.
Twin Rivers Genealogy Society is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Idaho, serving Lewiston ID, Clarkston WA, and the surrounding areas. The Washington State Genealogical Society (WSGS) has restarted its awards programs and five SGS members received awards this year. Four SGS members received a WSGS Outstanding Volunteer award. This award is given by WSGS based on recommendations from local societies. The SGS recipients are:
Kathi M and Rob Sexton (team award) were recognized for their efforts in planning and executing the move and restructuring of the SGS library.
Cary Bright was honored for her many years of running the SGS DNA Special Interest Group.
And accolades go to Christine Schomaker for being, in essence, the SGS Swiss army knife, doing whatever is needed, and doing it well, for so many years.
Created in 2015, the WSGS President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement is not given out each year. It was designed and is reserved to single out that rare individual, society, or organization who has demonstrated exemplary service, above and beyond expectations. For 2022 this award was given to SGS’s past president, Jill Morelli. Everyone who knows Jill also knows that she has earned this award for her many efforts, not only within SGS, but within the genealogical community at large.

Anyone researching their family history in Eastern Europe probably has faced the challenges that changing borders present. In this program, Edie Adam will use findings from her family history research to demonstrate the key factors — time and place — and how to use them to your advantage.
The ability to search for birth, marriage and death records in regions now in Poland has enabled genealogy research most of us never thought possible. However, to many these resources are a perplexing maze of random searches.
