Now in its 10th year, and the 3rd year it has had online access, the three week 2022 Dublin Festival of History is brought to you by the Dublin City Council, organized by the Dublin City Libraries, in partnership with the Dublin City Council Culture Comany. In person or online, the festival is 130+ free events.

NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE
MONTH FACTS

We are half way through National Hispanic Heritage Month which is a 30 day period that runs from September 15th through October 15th. Have you ever been curious about the dates? 

It began back in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson. Then it was Hispanic Heritage Week. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan extended it to 30 days, but kept the starting date as September 15th. 

The significance of September 15th is it is independence day for the Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates their independence day on September 16th and Chile celebrates theirs on September 18th. Then October 12th is Dia de la Raza (Race Day) recognizing the mixed indigenous and European heritage of Mexico.

AN INVITATION TO THE OCTOBER
SGS BOARD MEETING 

For SGS members who wonder what the SGS Board of Directors does at its monthly meetings, this is a reminder that every SGS member is welcome to attend and

watch the SGS “sausage” being made.

The Board continues to meet via Zoom, and the information needed to log in to

this meeting can be found in the calendar section of the SGS website. The two

major topics of discussion for the October meeting of the SGS Board of Directors

are:

  • Proposed changes to the SGS Bylaws (to include a reduction in the size of the Board)
  • Proposed budgets for purchasing books and technology using SGS capital funds

The next meeting is on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM PDT and every SGS member is welcome to attend. Hope to see you there.

U.S. church records of many denominations can reveal ancestors’ vital events, family relationships, overseas birthplaces and other residences and religious lives. From the co-author of the acclaimed book How to Find Your Family History in U.S. Church Records, learn what these records may look like, how to identify an ancestral church, locate extant records and access them.

Sunny Jane Morton is an internationally-known genealogy speaker and award-winning writer and editor. She is a longtime Contributing Editor at Family Tree Magazine; Contributing Editor and Content Manager for YourDNAGuide.com; frequent contributor to FamilySearch’s blog; and past Editor of Ohio Genealogy News. Our meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 7:00 pm until 8:30. The link to the reoccurring Zoom Meeting is located at the bottom of this page.

The first half of each meeting we will work thru training videos, watching, and then pausing to talk about the section we just watched before moving on to the next section.  The second half will be used for open discussion of topics related to using Legacy. This could include any questions or problems we are having with the program or tips and features we have discovered.  If you think of something you would like to bring up, please write it down so you can share it with the group.
