Presentation: The Waterfront Mills of Everett, Washington

Take a tour of the old Everett waterfront when the town was known as “The City of Smokestacks”. Images will be shown of the many prominent lumber, shingle and forest product mills that lined the Everett shoreline from the northern tip of the peninsula and heading south to the base of Rucker Hill. Sit back and enjoy the journey down memory lane.
Although the presentation will only be available in person at the library, our business meeting and board meeting following the presentation (2 pm) will be available via Zoom. A link to join the meeting using your computer can be found on our website www.stillygen.org

Curious about how family history might change in the coming years? This session examines the impact of new technologies, digital preservation, record access, and other factors that will impact the future of family history. Together we will explore the opportunities and challenges ahead for genealogists.
D. Joshua Taylor, MA, MLS, FUGA is a nationally known and recognized speaker and author on genealogy and family history. Joshua is the President of the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society (NYG&B). He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including RootsTech’s Distinguished Presenter Award, the Federation of Genealogical Societies Award of Merit, and the Rubincam Youth Award from the National Genealogical Society.
He holds an MLS (Archival Management) and an MA (History) from Simmons College and has been a featured genealogist on Who Do You Think You Are? with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kelly Clarkson, Ashley Judd, Reba McEntire, and Rob Lowe. Joshua can also be seen taking America through their past as a host on the popular PBS series Genealogy Roadshow.

Breaking through the challenges of brick walls has never been more rewarding; genealogists are often taught that the only way to do successful research is to search backwards through time; going back as far as you can. This lecture assumes a new focus on doing research by tracing all of the descendants of an ancestral couple to present; as we will examine the methodology to find living persons who may hold the key to your family history research. Focus is also given to provide an actual case study of doing this kind of research.
Michael L. Strauss, AG has been employed as a forensic investigator for thirty years, most recently he works as a research manager for Ancestry ProGenealogists. Michael is a native of Pennsylvania and a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He is a court qualified expert witness in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Michael is a national genealogical lecturer and instructor and is a faculty member at Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG), Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP), and the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research (IGHR) where he coordinates the military history and research courses. Michael was the film historian for the 2015 Academy Award nominated movie Finding Vivian Maier and has been involved in Civil War and Mexican American War reenacting for more than twenty-five years.

It’s my pleasure to share with you a day immersed in Irish and Scots-Irish genealogy research topics with Ulster Historical Foundation Director Fintan Mullan, and Chief Researcher Gillian Hunt in Post Falls, Idaho, Thursday, March 9th, 2023.
The Ulster Historical Foundation is a long-established, highly reputable research and publishing agency based in Newtownards, N Ireland. It offers its extensive knowledge to help on the sources available to discover Irish and Scots-Irish ancestors.
An educational non-profit organization, their aim is to . . . strengthen the links between Ireland and those of Ulster descent; broaden access to historical documents and records for Irish and Scots-Irish genealogy; and to inspire pride in Irish and Ulster heritage and culture.
I have attended their programs in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and hosted them in Coeur d’Alene in 2019… HIGHLY recommend attending this interesting, entertaining, and educational day of lecture if you’ve an interest in any sort of Irish/Scots-Irish ancestry, no matter what level of research you feel you’re at.

2022 was quite a year here at MyHeritage. Legacy Family Tree SIG Meeting Jan 3rd, 2023, 7:00 pm

Our meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 7:00 pm until 8:30. The link to the reoccurring Zoom Meeting is located at the bottom of this page.
The first half of each meeting we will work thru training videos, watching, and then pausing to talk about the section we just watched before moving on to the next section. The second half will be used for open discussion of topics related to using Legacy. This could include any questions or problems we are having with the program or tips and features we have discovered. If you think of something you would like to bring up, please write it down so you can share it with the group.
Saturday, January 14th, the Clallam County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 am. Claudia Breeland will be the guest lecturer. The title of her presentation is “Finding and Using Historic Newspapers.” Claudia is a professional genealogist, author, and a wonderful lecturer. She shares her experience to illustrate how she has found missing ancestors and answers to questions about the lives they led – answers found in newspapers. We will learn about the many online newspaper databases, both free and by prescription, as well as how to obtain news articles not found online. News articles may include birth and death announcements, marriage, anniversary and baptism announcements, awards, travelers, parties, and visiting firemen, civil and criminal judgements, advertisements for your ancestor’s business, and so much more. There is no charge for hearing this Zoom presentation. One can watch it at home or at the County Genealogical Society’s Research Center located at 403 E. 8th Street in Port Angeles.
