Topic: German Village 1500-1850: Marriage, Religion & Inheritance – Have you ever wondered what life was like for your German ancestors? An overview of courtship, marriage, and religious differences impacting inheritance and family life.
Speaker: Janet O’Conor Camarata, a member of South King County Genealogical Society, has over 25 years of experience in genealogy. She is an instructor in genealogy at Pierce College, a seminar presenter and trainer in genealogy societies across Washington, who takes advantage of the latest technology and staying mobile with the latest computing tools.

UPDATE: The flooding from Hurricane Harvey has destroyed homes of 6 of our members. After talking with Family History Fanatics (the producers of our eConference) we are going to be donating 50% of the registration fees to these 6 members from our society. Join us for an eConference! We’ve arranged for four great speakers to teach us about a variety of research topics. Registration costs $15 and you can watch the live webinar presentations or see the replay on your own schedule for up to 30 days after the eConference. During the eConference you’ll be able to ask questions through the webinar program’s chat features. After these four hours of instructions, the speakers will convene for a final panel discussion to answer questions not finished during the webinars or any additional questions you have. It will be a great day of education and entertainment.

Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical Society Monthly Meeting at LDS Family History Center, Tuesday, September 12, 2017
Summer break is over and it’s time for the monthly meetings of the Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical society to start again. Hopefully this summer has allowed you to break down some of the brick walls, and discover new ancestors that you didn’t know about last spring.
Our September meeting will be an informal question, answers and stories at the LDS Family History Center located on 12th and Pearl in Tacoma. Claudia Breland will be joining us to answer questions we may have about a research problem, and we will also be doing our annual show and tell. So bring your stories and your questions or just come and listen to other members talk about what they have found recently. Who know, maybe someone’s story will help you with your research.

TPCGS monthly meetings are held September – May at Bates Technical College, South Campus, Building E, 2201 South 78th St., Tacoma. (September’s meeting is at the LDS Family History Center) Meetings are from 6pm – 9pm. The Genealogical Society of Washington County Oregon will hold its monthly meeting from 10am to noon, Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Hillsboro Brookwood Library, 2850 NE Brookwood Parkway.
Speaker Don Anderson will talk about “From Native American to Scottish – The Journey to Find My First Parents”. The event is free and open to the public. JGSO Cemeteries Program
This month’s program is an interactive event. Instead of just learning about Jewish genealogy we will participate in documenting and preserving it for future generations. This Week at the GFO…

Mexican Ancestry Group 11:30am – 1:30pm
Finding your Hispanic ancestors from Mexico, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California. This Special Interest Group (SIG) will pertain specifically to Mexican ancestors from Mexico and the American Southwest (New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and California).
Beginning and intermediate researchers are very welcome. Some subjects will include online parish records, Hispanic genealogy societies, Family History Library/FamilySearch.org. Ancestry.com, solving genealogical problems, methodology of organizing your research, etc. Of course this group will also be about sharing our research experiences, and having fun.
If you know of any other people interested in Hispanic genealogy tell them about the up and coming group. They don’t have to be a GFO member to participate.

All for a mere $2300. The article does state that “a Great Dane probably could overpower the drone, while a Yorkie might be lifted into the air.” Think I’ll sit on this awhile…..

What does it really mean to be healthy? A bit in a recent National Geographic Magazine from Vivek Murthy, former U.S. Surgeon General, explains emotional well-being is just as important as eating a healthy diet and staying active. So how do we fix that, Murthy was asked. “The first thing we need to change is how we think about emotions. Emotions are a source of power…. but too many people think of emotions as a source of weakness…. we must learn to cultivate emotional well-being tools such as sleep, physical activity, social connections, and contemplative practices like gratitude and meditation. Murthy’s bit was ended with his fear that the level of stress among people today is what kills emotional well-being. Something to think about for sure.
