Eastside Genealogical Society German Interest Group

The German Interest Group of The Eastside Genealogical Society (EGS) will meet on Friday, November 3, 2017, from 1 to 3 pm in the Relief Society Room of the LDS Church at 10675 NE 20thSt, Bellevue, WA 98004 with doors opening at 12:45 pm for networking. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings.

Topic: Applying for German Naturalization – Carol will share her experience applying for German naturalization, based on Article 116, paragraph 2 of the German Basic Law.  This law allows descendants of Germans, who lost their citizenship during the 1933 to 1945 time period, to receive German naturalization.  It is also a story of how a person’s birthplace can shape their life and that of their descendants.

Speaker: Carol Shafer is a first generation American on her mother’s side. Currently, she is an English as a Second Language teacher at City University in Seattle and has worked for the government, in the private sector and in education.

Tuesday Trivia

Ever heard of Apple Annie’s in Cashmere, Washington? Ever been there? How long did YOU spend there? Cheryl and I had a date with the Okanogan Genealogical Society on a Saturday and then planned the next day to head to Seattle to spend time at the Fiske Library. Of course, Hwy 2 goes right through Cashmere, only ten miles out of Wenatchee.

Apple Annie’s is open 9:00 to 6:00, a full 7 days a week and has “70,000 square feet of fun” under one roof. Are you looking for something you loved in your childhood? Or a kitchen tool that great-gramma used? Believe me, you just might find it at Apple Annie’s.

And, there is an onsite ’59er Diner offering yummy burgers, fries and milkshakes, aka 1959.

After a wonderful two hours, and with our tummies full of hamburgers, we were off to Seattle and SO GLAD we stopped.

Monday Mystery

(PLEASE NOTE: Due to my traveling schedule, I sometimes do the posts for this blog weeks ahead. If you wanna answer the Mystery question, please refer to the DATE it was posted. Big thanks!)

Today’s Mystery is what is this???  Spotted it in the Pioneer Descendants Museum, Fiske Library building, Seattle. Any guesses? Your great-gramma perhaps used one.
