At our January 5 2019 meeting of EWGS we will have three functions.
***We will honor our past presidents who will be with us at the meeting.
***We will install our new 2019 officers including Dolly Webb and those who will serve with her.
***We will experience a live webinar with Diahan Southard entitled: “Three Next Steps for Your DNA Test Results.”

This all takes place at the Fosseen Room at Mukogawa (4000 W. Randolph Road). We will dine on a soup, sandwich and salad bar for $20.00 which includes tax and gratuity. The Webinar will be visible on two large monitors in the room so they should be easily visible.

The button at the bottom of the event will allow you to pay the $20.00 with a credit card (through PayPal) so it arrives right away. December 15th is the cut off date for registration and we will only be able to accommodate 80 people, so please register now so you don’t miss out!

SGS JAPANESE GENEALOGY SEMINAR

Join the Seattle Genealogical Society and our partners for a weekend of learning how to research Japanese American ancestry.
Saturday’s all-day program “Exploring Our Nikkei Genealogy” is geared toward entry level family historians who have friends or family with Japanese ancestry. A box lunch ($15.00) may be ordered in advance. Those who attend this session are invited to return Sunday afternoon, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, for “Ask a Genealogist”.
Sunday morning’s program “Japanese American Research for Genealogists”, is designed for intermediate and advanced researchers. Those who attend this session will volunteer their research skills on Sunday afternoon, helping Saturday’s registrants to get started on their family history journey by talking to an experienced researcher.
Registration is free, but limited to 40 for each day’s program. Seats will be filled in the order registrations are submitted. Registration begins December 1st. Click this link to register online:

DIGGING DEEPER: CIVIL WAR WIDOW’S PENSION
We regret to inform you that the program, “Digging Deeper: Civil War Widow’s Pension”. originally scheduled for Sunday, December 9, has been postponed until further notice. We will post a new date when it is confirmed, probably in the spring of 2019. We hope you will join us then for an opportunity to explore this topic in greater depth.

SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR THE SCANDINAVIAN SIG
Beginning in 2019, the Scandinavian SIG will meet quarterly instead of monthly. The first meeting of the year will be Sunday, January 13 from 1:00-3:00 pm and the meeting following that will be Sunday, April 14. Researching Scandinavian ancestors? This is the group for you. Led by Karen Knudson.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM: “”DNA Successes–Despite Endogamy!””
Genetic genealogy is much more complicated when dealing with endogamous populations than the general population, and many people get frustrated when trying to identify actual relatives from the mass of genetic cousins, who are actually related in many ways quite far back. Learn how you can have success when dealing with endogamy by examining stories from the speaker’s own family’s DNA, which include reuniting with branches thought killed in the Holocaust.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Lara Diamond is President of Jewish Genealogical Society of Maryland and has been researching her family for 25 years. She has traced all branches of her family back to Europe and most multiple generations back in Europe using Russian Empire-era and Austria-Hungarian Empire records. Most of her research is in modern-day Ukraine, with a smattering of Belarus and Poland. She leads JewishGen’s Subcarpathia SIG, is on the Ukraine Sig board and also runs several town-focused projects to collect documentation to assist all those researching ancestors from common towns. She blogs about her mostly Eastern European research at http://larasgenealogy.blogspot.com.
