We will learn how to find vital statistics, death notices, obituaries, marriage notices, local news and more, all in the NEWSPAPER. Basic Scandinavian Research Any genealogical research needs to be based on an understanding of the history, culture, geography, language, and resources of the area. This presentation will introduce these subjects for the Scandinavian countries – Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Some of the unique factors involved in Scandinavia include the use of patronymics, religion, geography, and history. The three countries have much in common, but some differences will be highlighted. Diana Crisman Smith began researching her family in childhood, and has been researching, speaking, writing, and teaching for over 4 decades. She has published numerous magazine articles, a newspaper column, and is the author of 3 books. Finding Female Ancestors Uncover more history of the women in your family. Researching women can be difficult as records are so often few. In this presentation you will hear ideas for helping you discover more about their lives. M. Diane Rogers has a lifelong interest in local and women’s history and is a Past President and Past Editor of the British Columbia Genealogical Society. She speaks on a wide variety of family history topics, from DNA to “Shocking Genealogy Resources.” She teaches genealogy classes year-round and facilitates the Vancouver and Scandinavian genealogy groups in B.C.
