Sunny Jane Morton presented a webinar October 21st for Legacy FamilyTree Webinars and it was 100% gold-plated wonderful. She talked about the “Genealogy Giants” (MyHeritage, FindMyPast, FamilySearch, Ancestry) and the new features from each one. For one week, this webinar will be FREE at Legacy FamilyTree Webinars (21-28 Oct) and then it will go into their library which you must be a member to access….membership is $49 annually to access over 5,000 pages of handouts and hundreds of webinars. We wanted to let your group know about the 4th annual Fall Genealogy Research virtual conference coming up on Saturday, 7 November 2020. The past virtual conferences were very successful and had great attendance.

1. Yes, the sessions are live. These are not pre-recorded, so if you have questions, then please ask them in the chat during any of the sessions and we’ll get them answered.
2. Yes there are door prizes.
3. No, you don’t have to be watching the live presentations to win (although we hope you do), everyone who is registered will be eligible to win the door prizes.
4. Yes, recordings of the sessions will be available for 30 days after the virtual conference so even if you can’t make the live session, register so that you can watch the recordings.
5. Yes we use our webcams. You don’t have to watch slides all the time. You also get to see people.
6. Yes, this event is open to anyone who wants to register. No need to travel or even change out of your pajamas if you don’t want to.

To help and provide support to local societies, WSGS will be sending out a gift of $300 to each society. This money is intended to help cover the cost of a subscription for online meetings or webinars or any other means which could help keep in touch with members.

Topic: Heraldry in a Nutshell or Two: How a Coat of Arms came to be. What is heraldry and how does it relate to genealogy? Learn about the history of heraldry and what constitutes a Coat of Arms, its components and who can bear one.
Presenter: Gail Spangenberg-Parrish
A native of Pretoria, South Africa, Gail first learned of heraldry at the Bureau of Heraldry in Pretoria where she worked as an artist. Her knowledge of Coats of Arms was minimal but she soon learned and found the entire process fascinating. Gail has executed numerous Coats of Arms for various groups or private individuals both in the US and abroad. Some of her work is on display in South Africa, in both Western and Eastern Washington, California, Massachusetts, Washington DC, Germany and Thailand.
