Kathie Webber, an active member at SVGS, will be giving an in person only presentation at our library. Our business meeting will follow the presentation.

Kathie’s Presentation: My Irish Genealogical Journey

Kathie’s goal has always been to learn more about her Irish family and where they came from. 75% of her family background is Irish. Along the way she has learned some better way to do things after taking some wrong turns. She will share some of those successes and mistakes.

Bio: 

Kathie been doing genealogy for over 40 years. She has researched in Washington State, Massachusetts, California, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Ireland. Her favorite notable ways to research include visiting cemeteries, family history centers, online research, facebook groups, and travel. 

There will be a short break with refreshments. The monthly meeting will followat 2pm.

The SVGS New England Interest Group (includes New York and Pennsylvania) meets at the SVGS Library on the first Tuesday of the month at 10am. This is a hybrid group. You may attend in person at our library or join via Zoom.

DIG – DNA Special Interest Group – 3rd Thursday of the Month

Also join us at the SVGS library from 1-3pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month for the DNA Special Interest Group (DIG). This group works together to develop a better understanding of DNA techniques and strategies for finding relatives, discuss and review new DNA developments and tools and help members with their research problems.

All DNA skill levels are welcome to attend.

Clallam County Genealogical Society DAR Databases for Genealogy

Clallam County Genealogical Society Announcement:

Using the DAR Databases for Genealogy will be the topic of a presentation by Georgianna Seko for the Clallam County Genealogical Society Saturday meeting, February 15th at 9:30am.  Georgianna is a longtime member of the DAR, and has been doing genealogical research for several years.  She volunteers at the CCGS Research Center in Port Angeles.

The DAR website offers more than just Revolutionary War information to the researcher.  This overlooked resource may help one find that missing clue that will break down a brick wall.

Everyone is invited to watch the program, either by coming to the Research Center at 403 E. 8th Street in Port Angeles, or via Zoom.  To obtain the Zoom meeting number and passcode, contact the Society by email: askus@clallamcogs.org or phoning 360-417-5000 Tuesday-Friday from 10am to 4pm.  Participants are requested to sign in 15 minutes before the program.

This month’s presentation: Using the FamilySearch Catalog presented by Charlotte Van Valkenburgh. This is a recorded presentation that was given at a Mini-RootsTech event on October 10, 2024. Charlotte is an intern at the FamilySearch Library on the U.S./Canada team. She recently graduated from BYU – Idaho with an emphasis on family history research. She finds joy in teaching others how to find the records that connect them to their ancestors. She loves spending her free time discovering all she can about her own ancestors and solving adoption mysteries with the help of DNA.

As one of the most useful tools in family history research, the FamilySearch Catalog is extremely valuable. Come learn about some tips and tricks to using the FamilySearch Catalog to help in your family history research.

Tri-City Genealogical Society January 2025 General Meeting

  Please join us for Tri-City Genealogical Society’s January General meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12.  The presentation will be at the Richland FamilySearch Center located at 1314A Goethals Dr.  Entrance is down the ramp from the parking lot that is to the north of Dairy Queen.  The presentation will also be on Zoom so you can join in from the comfort of your own home.  See below for the Zoom link.

  The subject of the talk will be Founding Footprints:  Early Families of the Tri-City Area – Part 1:  Kennewick

This presentation will explore the stories of some of the early pioneers who helped establish and develop the city of Kennewick. Through their perseverance, vision, and hard work, these individuals played key roles in transforming the region into the thriving community it is today. We will delve into the lives of notable settlers, their contributions, and the lasting impact they had on the area’s growth, culture, and heritage. Join us for an insightful journey through Kennewick’s foundational history.
