Heritage Quest Research Library is Still here

We’re happy to say
“We’re still here”!
I know it’s been awhile since we sent out an email, but we are happy to say “we’re still here” even if we haven’t been open.  Pierce County (the county where we are located) has moved to the Phase 2 of the COVID-19 recovery.  For us at the library, it means that we must make sure that we are able to accommodate our patrons in a safe environment. We must be able to protect our volunteers, members and patrons before we are allowed to re-open.  In the mean time we are working on ways to help you with your Genealogy. 
 
1)  If you are a current member of Heritage Quest Research Library, when you access our webpage, click on the Members tab.  It will take you to the log in page.  Log in and you will see the name Ancestry remote login under members. Click on it and you’re IN!
2)  Can’t find the time to do research?  We have the volunteers who are able to do the research for you. Our assistance rate is $15.00 per hour.  Send inquiries to: research@hqrl.com
3)  Our Webmaster and our Technology gurus are working to adapt our Pay Pal account to accept your membership payments.  We’re not there yet, but hope to be soon. If you regularly pay by mail, that’s OK too.  Our office manager is picking up our mail on a regular basis.   
4)  We are also working on ways to bring Genealogy to you!  Many of the Gen Societies and Heritage Groups are doing classes remotely.  We are working on that too!  

We sincerely care about all our members and patrons.  We have your health in our hearts.  Be well, stay healthy and we will see you soon!

We hope you are safe and well at home and have taken the opportunity to work on your family history.
We are continuing to follow the guidelines of the CDC and the Governor of the State of Washington, Jay Inslee.  Be assured that we are still working to re-open as soon as we are able.
Ancestry Remote Login and Forums
As a current member of Heritage Quest Research Library you have access to our FORUMS page and the ANCESTRY REMOTE LOGIN.
Currently the Forum topics range from “What are you doing during the Pandemic?” to “What you would like to see on the website and/or in the “library” and “What classes would you like to see?” 
Please note that this is not available to the general public and you must be a member in good standing to participate.

Heritage Quest Research Library Temporary Closure

What happens when a library is closed? We are happy to say that many things are happening during this COVID-19 Closure.  
The library has been thoroughly cleaned, we have added a new computer to the back office and replaced our oldest, very slow computer with the one from the office.  Our Office Manager is still picking up the mail from the Post Office so that we can process your inquiries, memberships and donations from the Nourish Our Roots Campaign. 
On the tech side, we have held our first online Board Meeting with amazing success. 
Our Tech Manager and our Web Manager have worked closely to get our online Forum and the Ancestry Remote Login up and running for our MEMBERS.
Closely here is OK because one is in Sumner and the other is in Montana!
Our Collections Manager is still working on cataloging our microfilm so that we can add it to our database.  We have our Education Manager working on procuring classes for us when we re-open.
All in all, even though we are at home like all of you, we are busy keeping things running. 
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE!

Stay at Home!
On Monday, March 23, 2020, Washington’s Governor, Jay Inslee issued a new temporary “stay at home” order to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  The new order went into effect last night and will last until April 6, 2020. 
We are taking the direction of our Governor and the medical community seriously and encourage our members and patrons to stay home until we can all return to our normal daily lives.  
Meanwhile, take an online class, learn a new language, sort through your collection of family photos, read a genealogy book or develop a class to share when we return to the Library!

SESSION 1:    10:00 AM Fact Checking Your Family Traditions Some families are lucky, they have “family lore”.  But is this story true?  With new online collections we can now double check to see how it holds up to the light of some original records.  Only then will you know if it’s a keeper or just fools gold.  A case study of colonial Virginia entrepreneur Isaac Perkins/Parkins.

$ 25.00 per Session non-members  Session 2:  11:30 AM Using Hinshaw and Other Finding Aids to Locate Original Quaker Records During the past century, Quaker historians and clerks have been busy copying old meeting records and have created a wide variety of finding aids.  In the 1930s, Willard W. Hinshaw began publishing six volumes of his historic Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, with Willard C. Heiss following with six volumes for just Indiana.  We will learn how these tools can shortcut your search for original Quaker records. $ 20.00 per session members
